Gainesville realtor Aaron Bosshardt announced Tuesday he plans to run for the Florida House of Representatives.
Bosshardt, a Democrat, hopes to represent District 22, which includes parts of Alachua and Marion counties. Elections are in November.
Republican Keith Perry currently holds the seat.
"I decided to run for the Florida House because I felt that we needed principled leadership and reasonable people in office that are able to address Florida's future," Bosshardt said.
Bosshardt is the president of Bosshardt Property Management LLC and is the Chief Operating Officer of Bosshardt Realty Services LLC.
He said he believes his skills as a small business owner will help him at the state level.
Bosshardt began his real estate career in his late teens, said Jason Roth, spokesman for Bosshardt's campaign. Bosshardt said he currently focuses on property management and managing real estate agents.
He said he believes his experience as a realtor will help him relate to citizens.
Bosshardt said voters need to keep an eye on their state legislators, and he plans to stay accountable to his constituents.
"What [students] don't need to do is let people in Tallahassee just look busy and make sure that they're voting and holding their representatives accountable," he said.
