Some students have trouble keeping their New Year's fitness resolutions. Others, however, are running into difficulties before they even reach the treadmills.
Issues arose between the computer systems for RecSports and the registrar's office, which caused about 200 students to be incorrectly listed as ineligible for membership.
Pamela Hightower, coordinator for technology, assessment and membership services for UF RecSports, said data from the registrar's office determines gym membership eligibility.
She said students might have had trouble if they were not registered as full-time students or had not paid tuition, among other reasons.
When 20-year-old pre-nursing sophomore Barbara Cadet scanned her hand at the Student Recreation Center, a flashing screen directed her to the registration desk.
"When I went to the desk, they asked me if I was taking any classes, and I told them I was a full-time student," Cadet said. Gym employees let her in, she said, but they told her to visit Southwest Rec's offices.
An employee told her the computer system may not have processed her drop/add schedule changes, instead listing her as a part-time student.
Hightower said RecSports has fixed membership problems for 210 students so far.
Associate University Registrar Mary Ann Hagler said the office did not have a history of difficulties. She said she was unaware of the issues.
