Nothing came close to junior forward Jennifer George and the Gators on the Golden Coast.
George led Florida (7-2) with a career-high 24 points and 11 rebounds in a 91-68 win against San Francisco (1-9) Wednesday.
“There’s not much that’s flashy with her game,” coach Amanda Butler said. “She seems like she gets her head knocked off every time she scores and doesn’t even get half of the credit for all the contact she’s taking.”
While George had a good night down low, she was not alone in providing solid post play.
Senior center Azania Stewart turned it up, scoring nine points and recording a season-high 11 boards in the contest.
On the night, the Gators outscored the Dons 44-20 in the paint, but the scoring effort was not limited to the post players.
Senior guards Deana Allen and Lanita Bartley joined George as double-digit scorers for UF, racking up 11 points apiece on the night.
Other guards that contributed more to the offensive effort than usual were sophomore Brittany Shine and freshman Andrea Vilaró Aragonés.
Shine—a Sacramento native—scored seven points and added five rebounds while playing in front of family and friends.
Meanwhile, Aragonés put up seven points on 3-of-4 shooting in just 13 minutes on the floor.
The Spaniard, who has made five shots for 13 points in her last two games, also added two assists and a block against San Francisco.
“She has tremendous vision and tremendous timing and (a) lot of passes that she can throw in her arsenal that other players don’t have,” Butler said.
Florida’s next game will come against Pacific at 7 in Stockton, Calif., on Friday.
The Tigers (3-3) are carrying a three-game winning streak into the matchup with the Gators.
With her team traveling on the road, Butler admits that there will be limited time to “incorporate adjustments” between the two contests.
“We need everyone to contribute, we need to be able to keep fresh legs on the floor, and we need to make sure we are dictating the tempo and establishing the paint,” Butler said.
