UF's animal sciences department and the Dairy Science Club will be partnering to sell baskets filled with summer sausage and cheddar cheese.
The proceeds will help fund the travel for three of UF's Intercollegiate Judging Teams, including a livestock judging team, a meat judging team and a meat-animal evaluation team. The dairy club and the animal sciences department will also benefit from the sales, said Rebecca Matta, the department's program assistant.
The sausage is entirely made on campus by students. The cheese is made with milk from cows from across the Southeast.
Basket prices range from $8 to $28. This is the second year the sale is taking place.
"We hope to increase our sales each year," Matta said.
The holiday gift baskets are available for pickup at the Animal Sciences Meat Laboratory on Dec. 9 and 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Isabel Cardozo, a 19-year-old applied physiology and kinesiology freshman, said she would buy a basket to support the cause.
"I'm obsessed with cheese," Cardozo said. "Well, I'm a vegetarian, but I would buy a basket for someone to help out."
