One UF student wants to move off campus so she doesn't have to eat alone.
"None of my friends have the meal plan, so I have no one to eat with," said 19-year-old Marisa Ross, a journalism freshman.
That, along with the fact that living off campus could be cheaper, among other factors, brought Ross to the off-campus housing fair Wednesday.
Student Government hosted the event, showing about 1,000 students more than 40 places they could live at its biannual off-campus housing fair.
"This is one of the only chances where we allow off-campus apartments to advertise to students here on campus," said Monica Tirtarahardja, a 20-year-old exercise physiology junior and the organizer of the event.
The fair held in March featured 77 housing complexes and attracted about 2,000 people, according to Alligator archives. However, the goal of this semester's event was the same: To inform students about living off-campus, Tirtarahardja said.
Ross said she's considering living at Campus Lodge because that's where her sister lives.
With handfuls of free merchandise from the apartment complexes, Ross said despite the convenience, she would be off campus next year.
"I was thinking about living in the dorms, but I figure it's part of growing up," she said.
