Man crashed PT Cruiser into side of Archer Road Walmart

A man entered the Walmart on Southwest Archer Road Tuesday morning, but he didn't use the front door.

The man, driving alone in a PT Cruiser, slammed into the side of the Walmart, 3570 SW Archer Road, at about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday.

As he was coming to a stop sign in front of the store, he accelerated forward into the building, according to witness accounts given to police.

"He was pinned in the vehicle," said Sgt. Tscharna Senn of the Gainesville Police Department.

"The fire department had to cut him out."

The 59-year-old man was taken to the Malcolm Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center on Southwest Archer Road.

He had no life-threatening injuries, but police were unable to speak with him as of 4 p.m. Tuesday because he was being checked for potential internal injuries.

The Walmart remained open after the incident.

Some portions of the store were closed so debris could be cleared out from around the crash site, Senn said.
