Way to go, UF Student Government.

You blew it.

This was your chance to prove that you were not an incompetent, corrupt and useless governing body.

You had the opportunity to show that there is some shred of internal validity within your organization.

And then you go and do something like this.

How can the UF Supreme Court rule, according to Tuesday's article, that "there was not enough harm done" to merit an invalidation of the SG election and a subsequent re-vote?

Not enough harm done?

Did you forget, SG, that the students control you and not the other way around?

Did you forget that you are funded with their money?

It doesn't matter that the results might have been unaffected or unchanged by a proper vote.

The bigger issue at hand here is that the election was botched and the voice of the students was not accurately represented.

If you claim to represent the voice of UF students, then you might want to start by doing it legally and through fair electoral processes.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad probably thinks he represents the voice of the Iranian people, too, but we all know that is not entirely accurate.

The UF Supreme Court, if it is going to call itself impartial, should treat a governing body that controls millions of student dollars with a little bit more scrutiny.

How could Associate Justices Cecily Welsh and Tim Mason think a re-vote would do more harm than good?

For one thing, it would be a chance to retest the voting system and fix all of the bugs that created such a mess last time. (You could also actually follow your own code and test the system two days beforehand, but who's counting?)

It's not like SG is trying to solve the national debt, so what harm is there in making the candidates campaign again?

Poor, poor SG members. We wouldn't want you to have to do any more work than you have to. We wouldn't want you to have all those fraternities and sororities put up signs again, and we know how much of a pain walking around campus and handing out little cards can be.

But we think the students would not mind a little more harassment this semester with the knowledge that an actual fair election process was taking place.

And how could we expect the SG Elections Commission to do its job correctly? That's just too much to ask.

Or is it that you're afraid a re-vote would drive more people to vote against the Unite Party due to its unprofessional and irresponsible behavior during this entire ordeal?

And students, if you do not care about this issue, you should. It's your money.
