Students for a Democratic Society begins four-day protest of tuition-hikes

Gainesville Students for a Democratic Society will host a four-day demonstration beginning today to protest tuition increases at UF.

The "Tuition Hikes House of Horrors" is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday on Plaza of the Americas.

The event aims to educate students on the history and effect of tuition hikes, according to Chrisley Carpio, SDS external affairs liaison.

SDS will also showcase a student proposal declaring student opposition to increases in tuition as well as an outline of ways to account for the budget shortfall without increasing tuition.

"[This document] calls for the administration to stop putting its financial burden on the backs of students who are not able to make up for the current financial crisis," Carpio said.
