The Alachua County Humane Society's new adoption facility is open for business, and the animals are ready to greet you at the door.
The humane society is holding an open house to celebrate its new building, which is 30,000 square feet, sits on four acres of land and cost $2.1 million, including renovation expenses.
The open house is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will feature KTK 98.5's Storm Roberts, the Alachua County Sheriff Office's Canine Unit and behind-the-scene tours of the facility.
The humane society has already seen an increase in adoptions in the few months it has been in the new building.
Eric Van Ness, the executive director of the humane society, said the new property will help facilitate adoptions countywide.
"What we're trying to do right now is end euthanization in Alachua County. It's really been our focus for the last 10 years or so," he said. "The adoption rate is definitely going to go up. Our limiting factor right now is funding. We're getting to the point where we need more funding to do more adoptions."
