A Jacksonville-based comedy club paired with a UF fraternity to bring comedian Ralphie May to campus tonight at 8.
Comedy Zone is bringing May to the University Auditorium before he does a three-day performance in Jacksonville.
Tickets to the show cost $29. They can be purchased online through Ticketmaster or at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m.
May was a finalist on the first season of "The Last Comic Standing." He has also had various specials on Comedy Central, such as "Ralphie May: Prime Cut" and "Ralphie May: Girth of a Nation." His comic style crosses social, ethnic and cultural barriers, according to Comedy Zone.
"Gainesville is the perfect market for Ralphie," said Fred Pozin, the owner of Comedy Zone. May has performed in Jacksonville and at other universities, such as the University of Central Florida. This will be his first time at UF.
May will be the first comedian Comedy Zone brings to Gainesville, but Pozin said he won't be the last.
"The university is hungering for more comics," Pozin said.
Pozin has been in the comedy business for more than 20 years, but Gainesville is a new market for him.
Pozin's son, business administration sophomore Noah Pozin, 19, is a brother of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, which helped publicize the event.
The Comedy Zone is using May as a springboard for other high-quality comics it hopes to bring to Gainesville.
The intention is to see how this event goes and bring other big names to the university, Noah Pozin said.
