Try as you might, there is no winning

against Lady Luck. The house always wins.

This year at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights 21, Lady

Luck has meddled with eight lives, creating ruin and bloody

despair.

According to T.J. Mannarino, show director of the entertainment

team for Universal Orlando, this year will feature eight haunted

houses, six scare zones and two live shows.

Here's the Avenue's breakdown of the event, beginning with the

haunted houses.

Nevermore: The Madness of

Poe

Edgar Allen Poe is faced with the

decision of traveling to Baltimore or Boston after flunking out of

military school. The seller of his ticket, and secret goddess of

misfortune Lady Luck, comes into the picture, and Poe's sanity

dwindles.

While walking through the house, you are descending into the

madness of Poe's mind, and his greatest works come to life.

The Forsaken

The fourth ship of Christopher

Columbus will be put to light this year as the sailors of the

condemned voyage whisper in your ears and wreak havoc on

passers-by. A mutinous and cursed crew roams through the walls of

their watery graves, seeking vengeance.

H.R. Bloodengutz Presents:

Holidays of Horror

In this dark comedy-type of haunted

house, H.R. Bloodengutz will be presenting his annual televised

SCARE-athon. This year, however, his frustrations of being canceled

as a television host take form, and each national holiday is given

a new coat of horror. The Feaster Bunny, evil leprechauns and dead

presidents will join H.R. Bloodengutz on his final day on the air,

according to Mannarino.

The Thing

Based on Universal Pictures' upcoming

thriller "The Thing," an abandoned research facility in Antarctica

is infected with an alien phenomenon as the team encounters the

shape-shifting alien.

Saws N' Steam: Into the

Machine

In this utopian society, the water is

gone, and people chop up body parts and put them into grinders to

suck out the water for the city, Mannarino said.

The most humid of the houses, Saws N'

Steam incorporates the chainsaw alongside the gore of human remains

and forcibly extracted bloody water.

The In-Between

The In-Between is a three-dimensional

house where your eyes are not to be trusted. Creatures lurk and

blend in with the patterns of the walls. The question of what is

real and what is not will be put to the test.

Winter's Night: The Haunting

of Hawthorn Cemetery

The blue lights that have kept the

spirits at peace in Hawthorn Cemetery have died, and the ghouls

have risen to haunt the living.

"We put you in the wintertime; this house has a 65-degree

temperature. So when you walk in, you are physically very, very

cold," Mannarino said.

Nightingales: Blood

Prey

This haunted house has twists, turns

and man-eating nightingales. According to the press release, the

WWI-era trenches are filled with these monsters that prey on the

weak and helpless soldiers.

Scare zones:

This year's scare zones are

completely new.

Acid Assault has acid rain survivors follow you, the Canyon of Dark

Souls has tall, cloaked reapers above you and the seven deadly sins

are put on display as well.

Live Shows:

Bill and Ted's Excellent

Halloween Adventure is still playing. This year, Death Drums, a

moving live show with active drumming, will premiere as well.

Ticket prices begin at $41.99 for Sunday through Thursday nights,

$51.99 for Friday nights and $ 66.99 for Saturday nights.
