Zipcar members will soon see a new line of vehicles that are readily available to them on UF's campus.
Ford Motor Co. has teamed up with Zipcar Inc., a company that allows members to rent cars by the hour or day as an alternative to car ownership and traditional renting, to make Ford the largest university vehicle partner in the Zipcar program.
The alliance between Ford and Zipcar offers a more sustainable way to travel, while introducing students to two new Ford vehicles - the 2012 Ford Focus and 2012 Ford Escape.
According to a press release from Ford Motor Co., the addition of these new vehicles will help reduce campus traffic and emissions, while easing the demand for limited parking.
Currently, the Ford Focus, Nissan Sentra, Honda Civic, Scion xB and Toyota Prius are offered on UF's campus.
Zipcar contracted a two-year agreement with Ford that will add up to 1,000 Ford vehicles to its selection of cars by the end of the deal. The program will be debuting at more than 250 university campuses across the U.S.
According to Zipcar policy, members who are 18-20 can use a group of Zipcars that are strictly on campus, while members 21 and older have access to Zipcar's full membership, which includes international renting.
Zipcar is offering $10 off the $35 annual membership fee for the first 100,000 new university members (including students, faculty and staff) across the country.
So, students, keep an eye out for all the fuel-efficient vehicles cruising around campus.
