Instead of placing bets, students can pledge money to UF libraries this football season.
In order to raise money, the university's libraries have teamed up with the UF Athletic Association to create the "Athletic Sports Challenge."
Students can register online to pledge anywhere from 25 cents to $100 for each touchdown scored during the 2011 football season. They also can choose which library or book collection their proceeds will benefit. At the end of the season, each student will be billed an invoice for the amount he or she agreed to donate.
"The money will be used to purchase resources and meet the needs of students," said Barbara Hood, the UF libraries public information officer.
Hood said the money raised may help the libraries extend their open hours prior to final exams.
