Those looking to find designer label Missoni-inspired, eclectic, zig-zag patterns at Target may be disappointed to see nearly empty shelves and clothing racks only days after the release.
Although the popularity and success of the line is apparent, Gainesville's local Target, located at 3970 SW Archer Road, will not be replenishing its supply of the Missoni for Target collection, staff said of as of last week.
The local Target sold out most of the Missoni for Target collection within the first days of its arrival, according to Target sitting room associate Kristin.
Missoni for Target is a 400-piece collection designed by Italian, luxury-designer Missoni exclusively for Target. The line features beauty accessories, apparel for men, women and children, stationary items, luggage, bikes, and home and office furnishings, all ranging from $2.99 to $599.99.
The collection was supposed to be featured in Target stores and online from Sept. 13 through Oct. 22, but has already sold out at many of its 1,700 stores around the country, according to the Associated Press.
The official Target website, Target.com, crashed due to excessive traffic from savvy shoppers trying to purchase the unusually low-priced designer pieces.
Although the Target on Archer Road did not have any lines or shopping mobs, the items went much quicker than employees anticipated.
"I was pretty shocked at how fast the items went," Kristin said. "I've never seen any designer sell out quite this fast. This one is by far the most popular that I have ever seen."
In the past, Target has featured similar designer-collaborative collections, such as McQ by Alexander McQueen and William Rast by Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala. None of the lines, thus far, has been quite as monumental.
"I think Missoni really stuck to their design," said 21-year-old Target shopper Annie Quintana. "Past collections you could tell were made for Target. Missoni did a good job of creating a line that was affordable, while maintaining authenticity."
Quintana was sent by family and friends to purchase items already sold out in their hometown of Miami.
She arrived to Target one day after the release and was shocked to see almost everything cleared out, specifically a pair of rain boots she had her eyes on.
Home and bath merchandise were the first things to go, according to Target manager Sandra. There are still a few items left, but the majority of the collection is gone.
Those on a mission for Missoni can check eBay to purchase items from the collection. There are currently almost 30,000 listings under "Missoni for Target" on the site.
