FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger is expected
to be fine after undergoing a precautionary x-ray Friday afternoon
on a hip that was surgically repaired three weeks ago.
According to FAU Assistant AD for Media
Relations Katrina McCormack, Schnellenberger was briefly
hospitalized after one of the teams’ four buses broke down near
Port St. Lucie.
His wife and family, who were following the
caravan in their car, brought Schnellenberger to the hospital to
ensure nothing had changed from the time of the surgery.
The precautionary exam was made at the
recommendation of the team’s orthopedic surgeon, who was traveling
on the same bus and originally performed the operation. There was
concern that sitting in a confined space for that amount of time
had potentially aggravated the hip, but those fears have been
alleviated and Schnellenberger is expected to be on the sidelines
for Saturday’s 7 p.m. matchup with Florida.
Schnellenberger had hoped to meet up with his
team by the conclusion of its Friday afternoon walkthrough, but
traffic prevented him from reaching Ben Hill Griffin Stadium by 6
p.m., when team buses departed.
He is expected to rendezvous with the team at
their hotel in Ocala.
