On behalf of the UF Student Body, welcome to the Gator Nation! This is the beginning of the greatest years of your life, and we are here to guide you as you transition to college.
Over the course of your studies here, you will learn from some of the greatest faculty in the world - international leaders in their fields, award winning academics and dedicated mentors. Work hard to be academically successful, not only for the grades you will earn but for the knowledge gained in order to earn those grades.
My challenge for you today is to learn as much from the students around you as you do from your classes. In a student body more than 50,000 strong, each student brings with him or her a set of experiences and a unique background.
Some of you may be in a long line of family members to attend this university; others of you may be the first in your families to attend college. Your achievements in your life so far have brought you among our state's elite here at UF.
I encourage you to find your place on this campus. Whether you join a fraternity or sorority, student government, a cultural organization, a church, a synagogue or any other group on this campus, the most important thing to remember is to pursue your passion.
Commit yourself to finding yourself. Seek to be not only a member, but a leader. In all of this, I encourage you to maintain a positive attitude. You will face defeats, and they will teach you more than your victories. But don't go into anything expecting to be defeated.
Your experience here will be unique and fulfilling. I am excited for the opportunity to get to know the Class of 2015 and be a witness to all that you will achieve.
Always remember that your Student Government leaders are here to answer any questions you may have along the way.
Good luck and Go Gators!
Ben Meyers is the UF Student Body president.
