A warehouse erupted in flames Monday afternoon, sending up a plume of smoke that could be seen from campus.
Gainesville Discount Furniture and Mattress Warehouse, part of a complex at 3424 SW 42nd Way, caught on fire at about 2:55 p.m., Gainesville Fire Rescue District Chief Rusty Barrett said. The entire building was destroyed.
Both county and city fire officials responded to the scene, and portions of SW 40th Blvd were closed while the fire was being contained.
Two people were in the building at the time but there were no injuries or deaths.
