This time it’s not a joke. Defensive

end/linebacker Chris Martin is transferring from Florida.

Coach Will Muschamp announced Friday the

redshirt freshman would be leaving the program.

“Chris and his family have indicated that it

might be best for him to be closer to home," Muschamp said. “We

wish him nothing but the best of luck.”

Martin transferred to Florida from Cal, after

originally committing to, and decommitting from, Notre Dame.

He becomes the fourth player to leave the

Gators this year, joining freshman running back Mike Blakely, and

freshmen receivers Javares McRoy and Chris Dunkley.

The 6-foot-4 tweener closed spring practice as

the backup to Ronald Powell at the heralded Buck position, but took

reps inside at middle linebacker as well.

Martin was arrested Jan. 29 for possession of

less than 20 grams of marijuana and also made news in March after

posting a message on his Facebook status insinuating he had been

dismissed from the team.

He later said it was just an “early April Fools’" joke.

Former cornerback Janoris Jenkins was

dismissed from the team after similar subsequent marijuana

violations.
