The No. 2 Gators men’s track and field team opened the 2011
Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships with the fast start
they were looking for.
Jeremy Postin had a school-record throw in the hammer toss,
collecting Florida six points on the first day of competition
Thursday in Athens, Ga.

The sophomore’s toss of
66.69m/218-9 landed him in third place behind LSU’s Walter Henning
and Georgia’s Justin Welch.

Fellow thrower David Triassi also scored for the Gators with his
eighth place finish, which brought UF’s tally to seven points.

After one day, Florida’s men’s team sits in third place behind the
Bulldogs (eight points) and Tigers (11 points).

Through five events in the men’s decathlon, two-time defending SEC
Outdoor Champion Gray Horn sits in second place with 4,022
points.

The junior got off to a rocky start with a seventh-place finish in
the 100-meter dash, but responded with a runner-up finish in the
long jump and a personal-best, 13.13m/43-1 toss in the shot put.
Horn trails UGA’s Michael Ayers by 100 points.

In multi-event action on the women’s side, freshman Brittany
Harrell was also sparked by personal-bests in all four of her
opening heptathlon events. She currently sits in fourth place
overall with 3,245 points.
Both the women’s heptathlon and men’s decathlon will finish
Friday.
