April 12, 1965: The U.S. Department of Education awards UF a $400,000 grant to start up a proposed Graduate School and Center for International Studies. The money comes as good news for the expanding graduate program, which projects its enrollment will be at about 3,000 by 1970.
April 9, 1983: A world record is shattered as the American Builders Institute and a team of 300 workers build a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house in 11 hours and 11 minutes in Gainesville. Construction of the house at 7220 SW 18th Place started at 7 a.m. with the foundation laid an hour later and walls up by mid-afternoon. The entire 1,100 square-foot building was finished by 6:11 p.m that same day.
April 15, 1991: UF launches a new feature of its student ID cards as part of a test-marketing experiment. Students are now able to put $5 on their IDs and use that money to buy sodas and junk food from special vending machines on campus.
