Shands employee charged with burglary, drug possession

An employee of Shands at UF was arrested by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office for possession of drugs and burglary of his neighbor’s house in southwest Gainesville late Wednesday night.

According to the sheriff’s office report, Christopher Turner, 18, broke into the home on Southeast 43rd Terrace and stole more than $300 worth of property, including a laptop.

Officer Jason Hurst found Turner in his house next door and reported that he was armed with a .22-caliber rifle that had been reported stolen, as well as the stolen laptop and less than 20 grams of marijuana.

Hurst arrested Turner at 11:15 p.m. on charges of burglary, grand theft, possession of cannabis, possession of paraphernalia and dealing in stolen property.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, he remained in police custody with bond set at $5,000.
