Gainesville residents and students rallied against Gov. Rick Scott’s budget cuts Friday, shouting, “Move, Rick. Get out tha way. Get out tha way.”

About 250 supporters marched from the Plaza of the Americas at UF to City Hall, where event coordinator Dave Schneider posted a letter on City Hall’s door declaring it to be a sanctuary for unions.

Other protests happened simultaneously across the state in 14 other cities.

Marching to City Hall represented how Gainesville stands united against Scott’s budget cuts, Schneider said.

As they marched down University Avenue, drivers honked their horns, people in restaurants fist-pumped to chants and others joined as the march went on.
