Not even this senior class has been this good before.
After winning the Lipton Invitational last weekend, the Gators
kicked off Southeastern Conference play with a tough trip to the
Louisiana bayou.
With a double-header sweep over No. 21 LSU (15-7, 0-2 SEC), No. 2
Florida (21-0, 2-0 SEC) is off to its best start in program
history.
Despite playing in front of a rowdy LSU crowd, the Gators prevailed
8-1 and 5-0.
Once again, it was the pitching duo of Stephanie Brombacher and
Hannah Rogers who led the way.
Rogers (9-0) allowed three hits in her fifth shutout of the
year.
Up 3-1 heading into the seventh inning, UF’s deep lineup gave
Rogers all the insurance runs she needed.
Freshman Kasey Fagan ignited a four-home run assault on the Tigers’
pitching staff with her leadoff shot.
After Kelsey Bruder launched a two-run shot to left, LSU made a
pitching change —but to no avail.
Brittany Schutte and Megan Bush continued their hot hitting with
back-to-back homers to put the score out of reach.
As good as Rogers was, her senior counterpart was even better.
Brombacher pitched a one-hit shutout, her sixth of the year.
The senior simply overpowered LSU’s lineup, striking out eight
batters to improve her record to 12-0.
While UF didn’t manage to match its offensive production in the
first game, it did come up with some timely hits.
The Gators showed improvement in high-pressure situations, as they
scored four runs with two outs in the fourth inning.
Fagan laced a two-run single down the left field line and showed
her versatility by swiping second, putting herself in scoring
position.
Michelle Moultrie and Aja Paculba followed with back-to-back RBI
doubles to cap off the scoring.
The Gators will head to Clearwater to take part in the USF Under
Armour Showcase.
They will open up against Connecticut at 5:30 p.m. on Friday before
taking on Robert Morris at 8.
