At times, Mike Holloway sounds like a broken record.

But when he has back-to-back national championships to its credit, it’s hard not to listen.

Just as he repeatedly insisted throughout the indoor season, Holloway said the outdoor season is all about one thing for the Gators: getting better.

And, according to Holloway, Florida did that just that at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge this weekend.

“The big thing was to just see where we were and try to shake the rust off a little bit,” Holloway said.

Daisy Glasser and Keely Medeiros gave the Gators two victories with their efforts in the pole vault and the discus throw, respectively.

Glasser won with a vault of 3.80m/12-5.50 and Medeiros’s discus throw registered at 51.02m/167-5.

“It wasn’t really about the victories yesterday,” Holloway said. “They got better, but they also saw some things they could do to improve on their performances.”

In addition to the efforts of Glasser and Medeiros, three UF athletes placed second in their respective events.

Claire Spurling (3.50m/11-5.75) and Alexis Muniz (1.65m/5-5) tied for second place in the pole vault and the high jump, respectively, while Ashley Miller was the standalone runner-up in the discus throw (50.17m/164-7).

With the volume of top finishes in Orlando last weekend, Holloway is confident UF can build on last weekend’s showing.

“We just need to get some consistency going …sharpen some things up before the championships,” Holloway said. “We need to get everybody going again. … We’re working on little things, whether they be technique-wise or conditioning-wise.”
