The Progress Party and the Unite Party will battle at the polls Feb. 22 and 23 for UF student votes, but for now they’ll have to fight with their bank accounts.

In the last week of January, the Unite Party raised $11,000 in contributions, according to Student Government finance records. This past week, the Progress Party raised $610.

Ben Meyers, the Unite Party candidate for Student Body President, donated $5,000. He said the money came from family.

Anthony Reynolds, the party’s vice presidential candidate, contributed $1,500 and T.J. Villamil, the candidate for treasurer, contributed $3,000. Villamil said he raised the money by sending letters to friends and family asking for donations.

“I’m really proud of what we’ve been able to do,” he said.

The Progress Party raised $610 during the week of Feb. 8 to 14, according to Allan Brooks, the party’s treasurer.

He said that all the contributions, the largest at $100, were from candidates.

From Jan. 24 to 31 the Unite Party spent $4,477.78 of the income on campaign supplies like fliers and office supplies. Of the amount spent, $4,207.50 was used for 1,000 T-shirts, according to Unite Party Treasurer Jacob King.

The Progress Party spent $350 on T-shirts.
