A UF professor was arrested Jan. 27 by University Police on charges of funding trips to Malaysia on a UF credit card as far back as 2008, according to the police report.
Dov Borovsky, 67, worked in the Florida Medical Entomology Lab in Vero Beach, a division of the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Science.
According to the UPD report, Borovsky used his university card to pay for three separate trips to Malaysia for a total of $7,071.28 over the course of two years.
Though he claimed the trips as university business, they were for an unrelated job with EntoGenex International Ltd., a Malaysian-based company, according to the report.
Borovsky was reimbursed a total of $85,000 over the years by EntoGenex, but kept the money for his own personal gain, the report stated.
His actions were discovered during a personal audit by the UF Office of Audit and Compliance, the report stated.
Borovsky denied involvement with the company until faced with documented proof, at which point he said he had a relationship with the company and kept the reimbursements, as well as failed to report the compensation and conflict of interest, the report stated.
Borovsky is charged with felony theft and fraud and has been placed on administrative leave, said UF spokeswoman Janine Sikes.
