A prominent pastor and best-selling author and speaker will give advice and talk about his perspective on love in a daylong conference Saturday.
Mark Driscoll, the founding pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Wash., is scheduled to speak at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts to discuss topics regarding love, marriage, dating and sexuality from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Driscoll has been featured in Time magazine, USA Today, The New York Times, CNN and NPR. He has more than 4 million downloads on YouTube and an iPhone app downloaded 37,000 times. He is also a contributing blogger for the Washington Post.
Ryan Delk, a UF sophomore in charge of marketing for the event, said he hopes Driscoll’s message will have a lasting effect on the audience.
“I want hundreds to leave it with a new view on their relationships,” Delk said. “Then, 10 years down the road, you’ll have hundreds of families affected for the better and the way they were intended to be.”
Although Saturday’s event is centered on biblical values, Delk said the event is open to individuals of any faith who are 16 and older.
The event will consist of three sessions divided by intermissions and a one hour lunch break. Guests are free to come and go as they please.
Driscoll’s church, Mars Hill, was labeled the second most innovative church in the U.S. by Outreach Magazine. According to its website, the largest demographic of Mars Hill Church is young, single men, statistically the least likely group to attend church.
