Local man arrested for beating pregnant girlfriend

When Gainesville Police arrived early Monday morning, they found a nine-months pregnant Ana Gainey beaten and bloody.

The father of her child, 28-year-old Lavan Williams, came to see her at her home about an hour earlier. The two got into a fight, and when Gainey threatened to call the police, Williams jumped on top of her and choked her until she couldn’t breathe, according to a Gainesville police report.

Gainey scratched at his face until he let her go and ran away. She locked the door behind him and called the police, but he returned.

On the 911 tape, Gainey can be heard screaming for Williams to stop as he began kicking down the front door.

“Oh, you calling the police on me for real?” Williams said as he entered.

Williams left before police arrived. They found Gainey breathing heavily and bleeding from her mouth.

She told the officer she thought he would come back, so he waited nearby, hidden from sight. He came back two hours later and was arrested.

Police charged Williams with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, burglary and criminal mischief.
