For the second year, the better the Gator basketball players perform, the more the UF libraries benefit.

The Academic Sports Challenge is a system of online fundraising for the libraries in which anyone can pledge to donate anywhere from 20 cents to $10 for every 3-point shot sunk during the men’s and women’s basketball season.

Donors can choose to donate for shots made by both teams or the men’s and women’s teams individually. They can also choose which library they would like their money to go toward.

At the end of the basketball season in March, the donor will be billed a specific amount based on the number of 3-point shots scored for both home and away games during the 2010-2011 regular season.

Sam Huang, the libraries’ associate dean for advancement and development, said that the libraries want to meet the student’s needs. The program is a way to give students what they want from the libraries while incorporating the basketball team.
