The outfit is perfect, the shoes are to die for and the jewelry matches to a tee. But one thing is missing: the overlooked accessory, nail polish.
With more colors than a Crayola box, nail polish is a fabulous addition to any outfit. At spring 2011 fashion shows, designers definitely didn't over look it and neither should the fashionistas.
With painted fingers, any look will seem more polished - literally.
Classic red
It's bold. It's daring. It's timeless. Spring is a season for color, so why not spice things up with something as bright as fire?
Whether the ensemble is formal or casual, this classic color is always right.
To shake things up, try different finishes like matte or glitter.
Almost black
Be a tease with nail polish. Instead of going completely black, go with a color that has almost crossed over to the dark side - but not quite.
Shades of black come in a variety of colored undertones like navy, emerald and burgundy. With the right shimmer, the color will shine through.
Dark colors work best on short nails. Keep things simple to remain a woman of mystery.
Nice and neutral
Play this trend up with a spin on neutrals going for a polish with gray and brown undertones, rather than beige and pink.
Taupe nails are both subtle and sophisticated, and they pair well with bright colors, pastels and other neutrals.
But calm-colored polish should not blend with the wearer's skin tone. Choose a shade that is either darker or lighter than your fingers for maximum visibility.
Play with patterns
On the spring 2011 runway, Alice + Olivia went with a polka-dot print, and Betsey Johnson played with stripes.
Patterned nails are both funky and fun. Use bold colors, or use a nail polish pen for more precision and detail.
New for 2011, Sally Hansen Salon Effects are nail polish strips that stick directly to nails. They come in designs such as "Kitty Kitty," a glam leopard print, "Laced Up," an elegant lace print, and "Girl Flower," a vivid floral print.
For about $10 a pack at your local drug store - and a promise to last up to 10 days - this is an easy no-dry time required alternative for playful patterned nails.
Must-have metallic
All that glitters is gold - especially on the catwalk. Although it's not required to use actual gold flakes like some designers did, metallic polishes are a hot trend to try.
The more shimmer, the better, making for an eye-catching display of gold, silver and bronze.
Whether you're going for classic red, almost black, nice and neutral, playful patterns or going for the gold, nail polish is sure to take your outfit to the finish line for first place in style.
