When Vanessa Downer’s boyfriend came home with another woman, she went for her pocketknife.
Downer, 51, was waiting for her boyfriend, Herbert Davis Jr., at his home around 1 p.m. Wednesday and started yelling at him and Lavonne Smoke, the woman Davis brought home, as soon as they arrived.
According to a Gainesville Police report, Davis had to push Downer out of the doorway to get inside his home, and she followed him. She then pulled out a pocket knife from her purse and pushed him down the hallway, the report stated.
Downer pushed him into his bathroom and started slashing the knife around. Before Davis could push her off, she cut his cheek.
Meanwhile, Smoke called GPD, who, upon arriving, restrained an angry Downer.
After hearing her rights, Downer said she’d argued with the pair, but denied ever getting physical. However, she was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated battery because of Davis’ injury, the report stated.
Downer was also charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after police found marijuana in a folded napkin and a rolled blunt.
