Kenny Boynton knows what he likes: rap.
The sophomore shooting guard said, more often than not, it could be Weezy, Lil’ Boosie or Young Jeezy — you keep track — blowing out of his headphones.
His music library has expanded thanks to his roommate, point guard Erving Walker. Boynton occasionally has sided with Walker’s music taste, rooted in Northern rappers.
But Boynton, a Florida native, prefers his game spit from the South — something he’s slowly turning Walker onto.

“6 Foot 7 Foot” by Lil’ Wayne
“I like that song because it was his first song out from when he got out of jail. Everybody was waiting to see what kind of music he was going to put out, and I thought it was a good song to come out with.”
“Mind of A Maniac” by Lil’ Boosie
“He just expressed his feelings on that song. I like him as a rapper. He’s always in the booth.”
“Done It” by Young Jeezy
“It was a song I used to listen to in high school before my games. Erving Walker — he loves it, too. Majority of the time, I listen to that song [before a game].”
“Word Play” by Young Jeezy
“That came out during Hurricane Katrina. It related a lot to what was going on.”
“We Gone Miss You” by Lil’ Boosie
“He went away, and it was just about him telling everybody he was going to miss each of his kids and everyone that brought him up.”
“2 Smooth” by Webbie
“I don’t know why I like that song, but I probably listen to that everyday, honestly.”
“Don’t Talk to Me” by B.G.
“I used to listen to that in high school. That was one of my favorites. He was real popular for a long time, then he went away, then he came back. Basically, he’s telling people that weren’t his friends that he was back on top.”
“This is the Carter” by Lil’ Wayne
“I think [The Carter 1] was one of his best albums ever. That was my favorite song on that album. He put a lot into that song; it was a lot of good punch lines in that song.”
“What More Can I Say” by Jay-Z
“I think that’s just, overall, a great song. He’s saying what more can he do? He’s basically the best rapper alive.”
