Garbage collection pushed back by one day due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Trash collection for Alachua County will be delayed the week of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Monday trash pickup will be delayed until Tuesday, pushing back trash pickup by one day.

Regular trash collection will resume Jan. 24.

The delay includes pickup for garbage, recycling and yard waste.

Trash pickup is usually delayed during the week of Martin Luther King Jr. Day since county offices are closed that day, said Milton Towns, waste collection manager of the Alachua Office of Waste Collection.

Other holidays affect trash collection as well, including Memorial Day and Independence Day.

Towns said the practice has been going on since Alachua County went to one-day collection in 1994.
