After a week in which they experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, the Gators found out Monday that they’ll have a few extra days to regroup.
Florida’s matchup with Fairfield, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday night, has been canceled due to travel complications.
A weekend blizzard brought more than a foot of snow to the Connecticut school, thwarting the team’s travel plans.
The game will not be made up.
“We’re certainly disappointed for our fans that the game had to be canceled but it wasn’t for any lack of effort from Fairfield trying to get here, it was conditions that were out of everyone’s hands,” coach Billy Donovan said. “(Fairfield coach) Ed Cooley is a good friend, and I know they tried everything possible to get here and it just didn’t work out.”
In the week preceding what would have been a five-day Christmas break, the Gators defeated No. 6 Kansas State and were then upset by Jacksonville less than 48 hours later.
The Fairfield cancellation gives Florida three extra days to recover from the rollercoaster, as they will return to the court Friday when they square off against Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio.
