In an effort to foster ties within The Gator Nation, the UF Alumni Association will soon have a new Gator Club in Gainesville.

A Gator Club is usually a group of at least 50 alumni in an area who have interest in starting a club.

The club, which will most likely be formed in the spring, has Titletown Gator Club as its proposed name.

Katie Marquis, UFAA interim executive director, is excited for the proposed club.

Marquis said there has been a lot of interest generated, and the UFAA supports the effort.

In Gainesville, there are about 30,000 alumni.

“I think this club will be active in the community and assist with driving new UF initiatives for alumni and friends,” she said.

There are about 100 Gator Clubs internationally, according to UFAA’s website.

One person who knows of the excitement of a Gator Club is Stephanie Bailes.

Bailes is currently on the Board of Directors for the UFAA and has assisted with getting this group off the ground.

“It’s just exciting to be part of something that has such potential to provide benefit to The Gator Nation,” Bailes said.

Some members of the Gainesville community have already heard about the new club and are excited.

Tracy Wright, a local UF alumna, said a place to get together and a way to cater to families is a good thing.

“I think there are a lot of people in town who would like to have a more formalized network of activities,” she said.
