Students won’t get cake and ice cream for this birthday celebration, but they can expect much more.
Lakeside Residential Complex will host its second annual Culture Clash event Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the complex. This year’s theme is a birthday bash in honor of Lakeside’s 10th birthday.
The event combines food, games and performances to educate people on international issues and traditions. To incorporate the theme of birthday bash, Culture Clash will show guests how their birthdays would be celebrated in countries around the world.
J.R. Miller, director of the event, said his committee has been planning since summer.
“The goal of the event is to create a multicultural festival where people can become more aware of the many cultures at UF,” Miller said.
The lawn space at Lakeside will be transformed into a tour of the countries with different booths representing various continents. Visitors will be able to sample foods at each booth while enjoying performances on the center stage.
“We hope to make Culture Clash a yearly tradition at UF,” Miller said. “There is no other event like it.”
