UF ranked seventh on list of universities with happiest employees

Football fans aren’t the only ones saying it’s great to be a Florida Gator. The old adage also rings true for the university’s employees.

UF was ranked seventh on CareerBliss’ list of top 10 universities with the happiest employees.

CareerBliss surveys employees from corporations to guide both employers and employees in the job selection process.

UF professors, administrators and other staff members rated their workplace on a five-point scale based on eight factors: benefits, career advancement, compensation, growth opportunity, job security, senior management, work-life balance and their willingness to recommend the workplace to others seeking jobs, according to a press release.

UF averaged an overall score of 3.887 out of 5, right behind Columbia University’s score of 3.893. Wichita State University ranked first with a score of 4.290.

The study reported that UF employees rated their workplace exceptionally high when it came to work-life balance. They felt the university did well at providing job security and growth opportunities for its staff, as well as allowing enough time for faculty and staff to spend with family.

“I’ve worked at four different institutions since 1953, and I will say the University of Florida is the top of all of them,” said Glenn Butler, an academic adviser and retired professor emeritus who began teaching at UF in 1966. “They do an excellent job at giving us time for work and family. I have two adult children and five grandchildren in the area, and I get to see them evenings and weekends, as well.”
