Students got a little lesson on Israeli international relations Thursday afternoon.
About 30 students gathered at Hillel and listened to firsthand accounts of what it’s like to live in the political climate of Israel.
Gil Hoffman, the chief political correspondent for the Jerusalem Post, spoke for about an hour on Israeli-Palestinian relations, President Barack Obama’s performance in office and the sanctions against Iran.
“At a time when public discourse about the Middle East is so shallow, it was important for me to come here where I can speak to an informed audience,” Hoffman said.
Hoffman graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. and previously worked for the Miami Herald.
He was stopping in Gainesville to speak before an event in Orlando.
Hoffman lives in Jerusalem and was able to give an insider’s perspective on Israeli conflicts with foreign nations, sharing his own stories about living in the country.
Students who attended were offered free pizza and drinks at the event, which was part of Israel Week, hosted on campus by the Jewish Student Union.
