The officers of UF Shakespeare in the Park would like to stress their disbeliefs at Tuesday’s article on the “lack” of Shakespeare in Gainesville.

We have performed Shakespeare outdoors free of charge and for the benefit of the community since 2006.

To claim that Shakespeare in the Swamp is the only group “determined to keep the curtain from falling on William Shakespeare” is to disregard our yearly commitment to keeping that curtain lifted.

Recent performances by the Florida Players, the UF Theatre Department, and the Acrosstown Repertory Theatre further show that Shakespeare is a staple of the community.

UF Shakespeare in the Park would like to welcome Shakespeare in the Swamp to the Gainesville theater community, and we are excited to share our duty of keeping that tradition alive.
