A couple in their 60s were arrested after booze and the phrase “bring it on” sparked a fight with a machete and a metal pipe.
Emmett Calvin and Jessie Lane had been dating and living with each other for nearly six years, but the long relationship turned tumultuous Monday when they got into a verbal fight at about 8 p.m.
They had both been drinking alcohol when the fight escalated to violence, according to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office report.
Calvin, 63, cursed at Lane, 62, who then told him to “bring it on,” and reached for a machete while Calvin picked up a metal pipe.
Although Lane swung the machete at Calvin’s face, she said she wasn’t sure if it made contact or not.
Calvin then hit Lane on the right side of her face with the pipe, which resulted in a lump the size of a golf ball. He then threw the pipe and walked out of their northwest Gainesville house.
According to the report, ASO officers stopped Calvin on the side of the road, and he told them that Lane had hit him in the face with the flat side of the machete.
Deputies wrote in the report that Calvin’s face is weathered and aged so it was difficult for them to tell if any injuries were caused.
Calvin and Lane were arrested and both charged with second degree felonies for domestic battery.
