I have to disagree with Monday’s editorial. First of all, UF was never invincible, even with Tim Tebow. He was a significant contribution to our football success, but Tebow didn’t make or break the team. Chris Leak was the one who led the 2006 Gators to a national title.
UF’s decline in academics is likely due to budget cuts. If you don’t have the funds to properly teach, your academics will suffer.
Sadly, I’m pretty sure even teenagers in Gainesville don’t know about the newly built College of Pharmacy campus in Orlando. And even though Tebow left, our pharmacy school is still ninth in the nation. But sports are more exciting to follow than academics.
UF is not synonymous with Tebow; it was a great university before he came and still is now that he’s done. Even if we have a little “slump,” it’s always great to be a Florida Gator. Just ask the alumni who attended our university when we weren’t winning titles.
