Officials from UF, Orlando Health and Shands HealthCare announced today that they plan to collaborate on new health initiatives that will increase accessibility to care for patients over a 20-county region and expand training opportunities for physicians.
The agreement allows the three entities to negotiate forming joint clinical programs in several medical fields including pediatrics, oncology, women’s health and cardiovascular medicine.
The partnership will also increase undergraduate and graduate medical residency opportunities at Orlando Health, as well as create more opportunities to conduct clinical trials through UF’s clinical research program.
In a statement, UF Senior Vice President for Health Affairs David Guzick said the collaboration will serve to address continuing health care needs in North and Central Florida and bolster the university’s role in educating future health care providers.
According to a press release, more than 2.5 million Florida residents are now served by Shands, UF and Orlando Health.
