A man was charged with battery this weekend for striking a homeless man outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Jason Kauffman was taken into custody at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday after reports that he punched an unidentified homeless man. Kauffman, who has a wife and three kids, said he was just trying to defend his family.
“He came at me with a broken beer bottle first,” he said. “I swung at him, hit him and I started walking away. He shouldn’t have swung a broken beer bottle at me in the first place.”
According to the UF Police Department, Kauffman was given a notice to appear in court. The man’s status is uncertain.
