Come Friday, Gainesville will be flooded with out-of-towners from all over the world who come to take part in the famous Fest. But let us not forget that Gainesville owes its ability to host a huge indie festival due to its own healthy and vibrant local music culture. Ready to go local? Here are three Gainesville-bred acts you can’t miss at the Fest.

 Assassinate The Scientist

Where: Rum Runners, Saturday, 6:20-6:50 p.m.

Sounds like: Technical punk with a pop sensibility, or, “a pterodactyl with a megaphone,” according to singer and guitarist Gary Kreitzer.

Want to know more? These guys came together in 2007 and are rocking the Fest for the third time.

 Coffee Project

Where: Civic Media Center, Saturday, 6:10-6:40 p.m.

Sounds like: Straight-forward, personal acoustic ballads, featuring the trombone player of Less Than Jake.

Want to know more? The pair started jamming together when Less Than Jake was still touring, but started releasing their own records and lining up gigs in 2007.

 Greenland Is Melting

Where: Rum Runners, Friday, 7:20-7:50 p.m.

Sounds like: Bluegrass folk punk only Gainesville can deliver.
