Despite criticism, Gators are still a recruiting powerhouse

What I hope isn’t true might be. Although the Gators were outplayed this weekend, there were two specific drives that caught my attention – the first two drives.

After several weeks of ridicule and criticism by the Gators’ football fan base, offensive coordinator Steve Addazio was in the hot-seat.

What many fans didn’t recognize during our defeat against Mississippi State was that our first two drives were strictly passing plays.

That’s what the fans were asking for, and that’s what Addazio gave us but with no success.

John Brantley took numerous hits and made several bad decisions.

Then everyone changed their mindset, and from Section 33 chants of “We want Burton” arose.

I can only hope Addazio didn’t decide to use Brantley as a scapegoat to save his own job.

We may not have our Harvin-Hernandez-Cooper combination anymore but to say our lack of playmakers is the reason for conservative play calling is extraneous.

It is clear Addazio is conservative with his play calling.

But it will blow my mind to think Addazio altered our offensive scheme just to please fans and highlight the sub-par skills Brantley possesses.

People should always stand by their work, successful or not.

Florida football is rebuilding, but we are still a recruiting powerhouse, and I know we have players who can make big plays happen.

I just hope Addazio’s stunt in the first quarter was to try and develop young talent rather than throw Brantley under the bus of critical Gator fans.
