We sent Alligator writers to Tuesday’s advanced screening of “The Social Network” at the Reitz Union, this year’s highly anticipated portrayal of the rise of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg.
Look out for bathroom sex, cocaine use, Harvard fraternity bros and drunk LiveJournal blogging. Also, Justin Timberlake is in this movie and does not dance. Disappointing.
What do you need to know before you see this movie? Well, they liked it. And although the real Mark Zuckerberg isn’t attached to this movie, his hyperbolic evil-nerd role makes for a good story and a great film. Even if you don’t watch it, you’ll probably read all about it tomorrow ... on your newsfeed.
In between party flashbacks and lines of programming code, the movie surrounds Zuckerberg in two lawsuits about his business dealings with fellow Harvard students — one is played by the new Spiderman (mmm, Andrew Garfield). Like all great inventions, Facebook was created by a nerd who was pissed at his ex, and it tells the story of the Ivy League legend who launched the website we all waste most of our time on.
