“I have never profited from public service. I have earned every cent. I have never obstructed justice … Well, I’m not a crook. I’ve earned everything I’ve got.’”

“Many of the independent candidates chose to run against the existing parties … rather than being responsible to a party.”

Can you guess which of these is a lie? Let me spoil it for you. They both are!

The first is from former President Richard Nixon claiming innocence from the Watergate scandal, while the latter is from now-independent and former Student Alliance Senator Neil Gundavda claiming his “coalition” intended to run independent this semester.

I don’t doubt the integrity of the spokesman for the Student Alliance party and Neil’s confidant, Yevgen Sautin, when he stated his party wasn’t running this cycle.

But I can’t help but notice that the Student Alliance party’s slate and the coalition’s slate are one and the same. Does the creation of the coalition have anything to do with the fact the Student Alliance party failed to properly register the party’s slate and is covering it up?

If the Student Alliance party is willing and able to spin lies into activism, what other methods of deception is it using when it comes to its actions in Senate and Student Government as a whole?
