Senators voted against two bills that would reduce privileges for Student Government officials during Tuesday night’s meeting.

The first aimed to require senators with meal cards to submit a record of their purchases each month, along with justifications for the purchases.

According to the bill, $9,500 is set aside for the Student Body president, vice president, treasurer and budget committee to spend on food while conducting SG business, but there is no method to track spending.

The second bill would have done away with distribution of VIP tickets for SG members to Student Government Productions and Accent events.

Both bills were voted upon with little debate and failed by a majority vote.

“It’s absolutely disgusting what happened here tonight,” said Sen. Alan Yanuck, member of the Student Alliance party and co-author of the bills. “When we try to discuss anything this is what happens … I’m kind of still reeling, I don’t know how that worked.”

Unite Party spokesman Micah Lewis said his party would rather be spending time passing legislation that would bring real results instead of focusing on partisan issues.

“We as a party are not going to sit here and let ourselves be held hostage by partisan issues,” he said.
