A 46-year-old Gainesville woman was being held on a $30,000 bond Thursday for leaving three children in a locked car with no air conditioning.

Shyrl D. Williams, of 6123 SW 10th Place, was arrested after she left the children in her sedan for about 20 minutes Wednesday while she shopped in Winn-Dixie, according to the Alachua County jail arrest report.

The outside air temperature was 89 degrees with a heat index of 93 degrees. Williams was charged with three counts of child abuse and three counts of child neglect.

According to the report, two witnesses saw the children — Williams’ two-month-old grandson, and a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old who she was caring for — sweating profusely. The report did not state if the children needed medical attention.

The incident happened at about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday at the Winn-Dixie at 2500 N Main St.
