The names, addresses and Social Security numbers of 239 former students were compromised from 2003 until last month, according to a release sent out by the university Tuesday.
The students’ personal information was available on a Web-accessible archive created by a faculty member in 2003, which contained information for a computer science class.
According to the release, the website was removed immediately after it was discovered last month on a server housed in the Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering at the university.
Letters were mailed to most of the involved individuals listed in the database Tuesday, but contact information for 54 students was not available, according the release.
The university recommends concerned individuals call UF’s Privacy Office Hotline toll-free at 1-866-876-HIPA.
